Samsung SCH-A940

Filed under: Cell Phone Reviews — Admin @ 10:30 pm

“A great heaping layer cake of features, Sprint’s Power Vision MM-A940 does everything we thought a phone should do, and then some. Although it has a few flaws, its sheer ambition and ability to surpass our expectations make it our Editors’ Choice for a high-end Sprint phone.

The MM-A940 is a big (3.7 by 1.8 by 1.0 inches), heavy (4.9 ounces) phone, but you get a lot here: A 2-megapixel camera with optical zoom, full-motion streaming TV, satellite radio, over-the-air music downloads, excellent voice command, speech-to-text dictation, great game performance, Bluetooth, a business-card scanner, and a shake sensor. (Never heard of a shake sensor before? Read on.) This thing has more bells and whistles than our features chart has check boxes.”

Qool QDA-700 review

Qool QDA-700 review

We have presented this Palm OS smart phone before, but we could not miss this review. To make a long story short, BargainPDA tested the unit and thinks that it is not as “polished” as the Treo 650 is. On the other hand, it is also smaller and lighter. In the end, the lack of “must-have” features such as Bluetooth is just too much to be forgiven. Pricing is probably the last chance for the QDA-700. (gallery)

HTC Breeze Smartphone

HTC Breeze Smartphone

The word on the street is that HTC is preparing yet another smartphone for Q2 2006. This time, the device will be equipped with UMTS capability, 320×240 display, EDGE, 2 digital cameras (video & still), 64MB. There is only one undesirable feature: the horrible design. HTC has been good in the past, and I don’t know what happened this time. Possibly a design by committee :)

Samsung M8000 with integrated WiMAX

Samsung M8000 with integrated WiMAX

The Samsung m8000 resembles the i730 model from the Korean maker except that the antenna is gone (minor) and that it might be the first cell phone to use Samsung’s WiBro (Wireless Broadband), another name for the WiMax technology. The m8000 is reportedly coming out this month (in Korea), while the WiBro service will start only in Q1 2006. It is fair to assume that this PDA/phone will also support EV-DO and Wifi.

Samsung i730 review

“This is the year of the slider, and Pocket PC phones are no exception. The Samsung i730 features a slide-out thumb keyboard which marries the tactile feedback and excellent ergonomics of the Treo 650’s keyboard with the slider design first seen on the HTC Blue Angel and Harrier series of devices (sold as the Audiovox XV6600 by Verizon, Siemens SX66 by Cingular and the Audiovox PPC-6601 by Sprint).”

MM-9000 - Sanyo’s first EV-DO Handset in the US

MM-9000 - 1st Sanyo EV-DO Handset in the US Market

Sanyo’s MM-9000 is the company’s 1st EV-DO handset for the US market, and also a member of Sprint’s Power Vision EV-DO high-speed data network launch handsets. It comes with a 262k color TFT LCD, a 1.3 megapixel camera, miniSD slot, Push-to-Talk and speakerphone functions. Its strange that Sanyo omitted Bluetooth. The MM-9000 will be available from November 2005 onwards and supports streaming radio from Sprint. (specs below)
